Singapore Immigration Options

How can I relocate to Singapore?

You can relocate to Singapore on a temporary basis under a Singapore work permit scheme. The two principal Singapore work visas are the Singapore Employment Pass and the Singapore Entrepreneur Pass. Alternatively, you can relocate to Singapore permanently under a permanent residency scheme for capital investors, commonly known as Global Investor Program or GIP scheme.

I heard that Singapore has recently tightened its work visa requirements. I have recently graduated in the Philippines and would like to work in Singapore. Will I qualify for the Singapore work visa?

It’s true that Singapore has tightened its employment visa requirements as of July 2011.

An applicant of the Singapore employment pass must fulfil the following criteria before his/her pass is approved:

  • Applicant's education: At least a degree from a reputed/recognized university.
  • Applicant's experience: Possess good professional experience.
  • Applicant's salary: Must meet the minimum salary requirements as shown below.

As of 1 July 2011, and depending on the applicant's education and professional experience, the following EPs will be issued according to the following salary brackets:

  • P1 Pass: For a base salary above S$8,000 a month.
  • P2 Pass: For a base salary between S$4,000 and S$8,000 a month.
  • Q1 Pass: For a base salary between S$2,800 and S$4,000 a month.

With effect from 1 January 2012, the salary threshold will be increased as follows:

  • P1 Pass: For a base salary above S$8,000 a month.
  • P2 Pass: For a base salary between S$4,500 and S$8,000 a month.
  • Q1 Pass: For a base salary between S$3,000 and S$4,500 a month.

What is the fastest procedure if I want to relocate to Singapore permanently?

The Global Investor Program (GIP) scheme is the fastest way you and your family to gain permanent residence in Singapore, provided you are willing to invest at least S$2.5 million in a new Singapore business startup or expansion of an existing Singapore business operation. In addition, the authorities must be convinced of your business track record and investment plan. If you qualify for the Global Investor Scheme you can become a Singapore Permanent Resident within a time span of 3 - 6 months.

I am willing to invest significant funds in Singapore, does that help me with my immigration to Singapore?

Yes. If you are willing to invest at least S$2.5 million to launch a new enterprise, beef up an existing one or support an approved GIP fund in Singapore, you can gain permanent residency within 3-6 months under the Global Investor Program Permanent Residency scheme.  Under the GIP scheme, also known as the Capital Investor Scheme, you can choose from any one of the following investment options:

  1. Option A: Invest S$2.5 million in a new business or invest the funds to expand an existing business.
  2. Option B: Invest a minimum of S$2.5 million in an approved Global Investor Program fund.

Note: In addition to the funds you must also possess an entrepreneurial background and furnish a credible investment or business plan.
